PARISH ACTIVITIES

Christian Mothers
is a group of women who come together for
spiritual growth and to assist the pastor
and parishioners in a variety of ways.
Activities include a Communion Breakfast or
Retreat Day in May, hospitality at parish
functions, a May Crowning in honor of Our
Lady, cake sales for fundraising which helps
our “Adopt-a Family” project at Christmas
and our care of Senior Citizens. All women
of the parish are invited on the first
Monday of the month at 7:30 PM in the
cafeteria for spiritual inspiration, a
get-together and brainstorming ways to help
our church.

Holy Name Society
– is a group of Catholic men and women
dedicated to honoring the Holy Name of
Jesus. HNS attends Mass on the second
Sunday of the month at 8:00 AM followed by a
short meeting. Activities include a Day of
Recollection, a Communion Breakfast, a
fishing trip, fund raisers, sponsoring a
Keep Christ in Christmas poster contest for
children and service projects in the parish.

FANS
of St. John of God are a group of Friends
And Neighbor
Supporters who share their
various gifts and talents on an “as needed”
basis. This is a good way to “try on”
being a volunteer. Our ministry prepares
mailings, helps with annual events –Mass of
Remembrance, wreath sale and any other areas
where helping hands are needed. We are here
to support our parish.

Ministry to
Catholics of African Ancestry –
encourages the participation of members in
every facet of Church life: to serve the
spiritual, cultural, educational and social
needs of members and to encourage further
insight and understanding by the Church of
these needs; to stimulate development of
lay leaders of African ancestry; to promote
spiritual and liturgical rites that are
synonymous with and culturally akin to the
members and work to identify and eliminate
the seeds of racism that seriously affect
relationships between Catholics of African
ancestry and those who are not. Activities
include the annual Martin Luther King Jr.
Mass, blood drive, youth group, annual
academic achievement award and participation
in many of the other lay ministries.
Meetings are scheduled on the second Sunday
of the month following 11 AM Mass. All
are welcome to join !

Right to Life –
meets on the first Tuesday of the month in
the cafeteria at 7:30 PM. Activities
include a March to Washington, D.C. on
January 22nd each year; a baby
bottle fund drive, and a baby shower to
support local crisis pregnancy centers.
Evenings of Hope and Healing for pregnancy
loss and timely reports on Respect Life are
placed in the bulletin.

Social Justice
‘Action’ Committee - Uniting conscience
and community, this is a newly formed
committee with an open-ended agenda. Energy
is directed toward righting the wrongs that
surround all of us here in Central Islip, on
Long Island, in New York State and beyond –
one day – one issue – at a time. If this
type of “hands on, proactive” community
involvement interests you, meetings are 1st
Wednesday of the month from 7:00 – 9:00 PM.
